Waltz Lessons with NW Dance Network

Northwest Dance Network has been a strong supporter of FOGO and the Garfield Orchestra, providing performers, instruction, ticket sales, and audiences to our waltz events. They are generously offering discounts to the community for their next series of waltz lessons. Northwest Dance Network's next session of six weeks of waltz lessons begins the week of October 29. Classes are Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. A six-week series is ordinarily $60 for adults and $45 for students, but the price for Garfield folks, including FOGO and faculty, is $45 for adults and $30 for students. Here is the website: http://www.nwdance.net/.

Welcome to Garfield Orchestra at Lincoln!

For the 2006-07 and 2007-08 school years, Garfield's home will be at Lincoln High School, 4400 Interlake Ave. N. We will all be adjusting to the new building and new locale for a while. Among the differences--the Lincoln auditorium is fairly large and will accommodate many of our concerts during the school year. Check the Events calendar for dates and locations of upcoming performances.

Sally Foster Sale

To kick off our fundraising efforts for this year, all orchestra students will have an opportunity to sell Sally Foster products - wrapping paper and gifts. The proceeds will directly benefit students' travel accounts. For more information go to the Fundraising page.

Live Music!

Do you have an upcoming celebration, family event, or company party this year? Just think how special live music could make that event! Hire one or several of our amazing student musicians. In addition to traditional string quartets, ensembles of woodwinds, brass, and various combinations of strings and winds are possible. Our ensembles have played for weddings, bar mitzvahs, company holiday parties, dinner parties, etc.  Contact our Gig Coordinator to find out about Garfield Chamber Music.

Tsut's Twenty-Year Tribute

On June 18, 2006, we celebrated 20 years of outstanding musical experiences under the direction of Marcus Tsutakawa. More than 300 Friends of Garfield Orchestra -- including current students, alumni, families and friends -- shared memories, connected with old friends and roasted and toasted the guest of honor. Our successful and delicious dessert auction, along with many generous gifts raised almost $19,000 to benefit the Marcus Tsutakawa Endowment for Music and Instruments. For more information about the event, go to Bravo! A Salute to Marcus Tsutakawa.

Downbeat Magazine Orchestra Award

In 2006, the GHS Orchestra was named Best Overall Orchestra from a non-performing arts high school by Downbeat Magazine.
